Get Your Christmas Movie Fix 24/7

by T. Mack

Well, depending on who you ask, that is. Because if you ask my husband, he’ll tell you there are still three weeks until the official Christmas season arrives. However, if you ask the local craft stores, any Starbucks menu, or any of the television channels I’m talking about today, the season is officially in full swing! And if you’re anything like me, you’ve been ready for Christmas since at least November 1. So here’s the scoop on where to find your constant dose of super-sappy, over-dramatic, hyper-romantic, and amazingly cheerful movies playing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from now until Christmas day.

#1. Countdown to Christmas on Hallmark Channel

If you’re looking for light, fluffy fare that’s funny and romantic, look no further than Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas. This custom is now 10 years old and has become a well-known television tradition, taking over the airwaves for 2 months out of the year. Some people think it’s much too much. Others feel it’s the perfect thing to accompany our holiday cheer.

#2. Miracles of Christmas on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries

On Hallmark’s sister channel, Movies & Mysteries, is Miracles of Christmas. This runs the same two months but offers more dramatic films that take themselves a bit more seriously. If you find Hallmark’s regular romantic offerings a bit frivolous, this option might be just the thing for you.

#3. It’s a Wonderful Lifetime on Lifetime

Over on Lifetime, you can find It’s a Wonderful Lifetime, which is runs, like both the Hallmark offerings, for a solid two months leading up to Christmas. And much like those, basically takes over its channel. The offerings on Lifetime tend to fall somewhere between the extra light-hearted fare of the Countdown the slight seriousness of Miracles. There is a broader range found in Wonderful and a much broader diversity among the casts. If you were wondering where all the African Americans were in the Hallmark movies, you’ll find them if you hop on over to Lifetime.

All these channels have mostly the same things to offer. Sappy Christmas movies for the overly sentimental Christmas-lover. If you need a fix, tune in to any of these channels during this month or next and they will have you covered.

Is it already the Christmas season for you? Do you love the holiday movies taking over these channels for two solid months of the year? Or do you think all this is absolutely ridiculous? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I love the Hallmark movies! I watch dozens every year. Yes, they’re cheesy and yes, they’ve all basically got the same plot but I love them in Nov/Dec because they’re cute and fun and you can laugh at them while completely enjoying them.
