Potterheads Assemble! This is not a drill! It has been confirmed that Niantic Labs is developing a Harry Potter version of the hugely successful Pokémon Go called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Not much is known yet about the details of the game but we know that it will an augmented-reality created in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s new Portkey Games division. Niantic released the following teaser:
Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.
If it follows the trend that Pokémon Go set, we can assume that users will be immersed in a virtual reality set in the world of Harry Potter while also including actual landmarks to ensure players really feel like J.K. Rowling’s world has come to life. According to TechCrunch, “…it sounds like there will be significant influence from the Niantic game Ingress, which allows players to roam the real world collecting power-ups, defending locations and exploring their environment.” All of these snippets sound pretty similar to what we would all assume a HP game would entail, but for now, we have to just guess at what the ultimate goal of the game will be.
